Super glad this book exists This is one of my favorite books. I’ve probably read it 5 times. Each time is fresh. Each time, I feel lighter inside when I read it. Everything seems a little easier. Time flies by in a good way.There is a passage early in the book when Martin decides to become a beam of light. He concentrates really hard on becoming a beam of light and Poof! he is a light beam. For about 2 weeks after I read that, I found myself walking around imagining I was a light beam. Then I started looking for light beams bouncing off of things and shining through things. Then I started imagining that light beams were shining on other people.Presto might be my favorite character. He shows up for about 10 seconds.Each time I read this book, I get something new from it. I read it at different levels because I am coming to it from different levels, and I’ve found it has something to offer at every level. For me, these are the best books.My favorite way to read it? Take my time with it. When I step away, let parts of it meld with the day. Pretend I’m living the parts that make me feel lightest, let those come alive for me. They really did come alive.There were a few weeks when I could see that I was living like one of the light beams trapped on the planet Amalius, who had forgotten it was a light beam. It took some effort to remember. Then I saw children walking around looking unhappy. They looked a bit like Martin might, before he met Amalius, and I wanted to give them a copy of the book.I like Martin. There’s a roundness to his character, a balanced softness and wisdom that can see the people around him and can see far into his own future.The story is timeless. I think it can make life better for people, for generations.I say this because it helped me see something about myself that I wanted to change, and I kept thinking about a certain part of the story until I made that change.I really love this book. But that’s just me. I wonder what you’ll think of it?Disclaimer: I had the privilege of reading an advance copy, on a professional basis. I work for the publisher. My task with the book was a tedious one, and on each read-through I was glad for the lightness the story brought. Only once (yet) have I read it for ‘fun’.
