Metaphysical Renewal At Easter

Easter is an important occasion in the metaphysical work.

During Easter, we celebrate the resurrection and ascension, the victory of life over death, not only for Jesus but for ourselves as well. Easter is a time when the Divine comes especially close to help us drop some of our lower nature and resurrect our higher nature—the part of us beckoning for greater expression.

One of the most sacred rites going back to the days of the ancient mystery schools was the initiation of death and resurrection. During these times, candidates went through special trials as the lower part of their nature was released, so they could resurrect into their divine self.

The celebrated Eleusinian mysteries of Greece emphasized the myth of Demeter and Persephone as an allegory to the resurrection initiation process. In the Greek myth, the beautiful maiden Persephone was gathering flowers when Hades abducts her, taking her to the underworld. Demeter, Persephone’s mother, stricken with grief pleads with Hades to let her go. He agrees, but tricks Persephone into eating pomegranate seeds, the food of the underworld, forcing her to spend half a year in the underworld and half on the Earth. In this myth, Persephone is the personification of our soul. The journey to the underworld is symbolic of the obligatory journey we all make to Earth in our journey to enlightenment.

With the advent of the Christ era, the mystery school initiations continued in most beautiful ways. The example was set down by the initiate Jesus who opened the door to a new era of spiritual opportunity for all humanity. Easter was not only a religious service, but an initiation ceremony. This was done through a type of symbolic death, or crucifixion, when a part of the old way of life dropped away, and the metaphysical candidate could claim a new level of spiritual ascent.

This voluntary effort that all initiates go through is one of the greatest acts of love. We’re all doing this to varying degrees in some way. For example, letting go of a bad habit is letting go of an identification with that part of you. And even if it wasn’t healthy, letting go of that bad habit requires a type of sacrifice.

In the days leading up to Easter ask yourself, “Am I doing all I can to evolve my soul? What is possibly holding me back or slowing down my spiritual progress that I can correct?” This time is your time to talk with the Divine and open up to guidance and inspiration.

Express gratitude for all the Divine has done for you. Spend time in quiet contemplation reflecting on how well you can commune with your own inner life. If it’s hard to quiet the rambling of your mind, this is a time to detach, to be a little less embroiled in the cares of life. Sense and feel what is the Divine communicating to you to help in tempering the lower nature.

Despite the challenges of day-to-day life, there has truly never been a better time to grow spiritually than now. Dynamics of the world will always have their seasons of quiet repose and of dramatic activity. Regardless if the day is stormy or calm, approach it with the same spiritual steadfastness and constancy of spirit that keeps you in alignment with the Divine.

You do not have to be of any particular religious faith to appreciate the metaphysical significance of Easter. In celebration of this sacred time, make an extra effort to release something you feel has been holding you back, and make a stronger effort to welcome the Divine more deeply into your heart and mind.

In closing, here is a meditative prayer with the white light to help you better tune into the metaphysical Easter work unfolding:

Dear God, I ask that you down-ray the pure white light into my aura that I surrender my lower nature and rise up into the light of truth, into the light of harmony, into the light of eternal love. Forgive me my weaknesses as I forgive the weaknesses of others. I will do my best to see people around me in the Light of compassion regardless of their actions. Dear God, I know that You are always with me. The world is in your loving hands, and I will do my best to play my part in the Greater Age that is coming upon us.

Wishing you a most blessed and Happy Easter!
