Karmic Challenges and Opportunities in The New Year

Karmic Challenges and Opportunities in The New Year

As we start the New Year, we want to do everything we can to have a joyful and successful year. We set wishes and intentions, then do everything we can to make those intentions a reality. We are not always in control of what is happening around us, but we are in control of how we go about realizing our desires and dreams. And this brings to the spiritual principle of karma—the law of cause and effect.

Karma is the spiritual law of right action.

It states that for every action we take, there is an eventual and inescapable effect to that action. In the Bible, this law is stated as “what you sow, you reap.”

In our metaphysical work, we call the application of this divine law our coin of wisdom. On one side of this coin is the right of free choice and on the other side is the will to act out that choice. How you spend this coin determines if you live in harmony with the Divine laws of life or not. The better choices you make, coupled with the ability to carry out those choices, the better things will go for you.

Reflect on the choices you made this last year.

Did they produce the effect you seek? Did they help others and contribute to the betterment of society? Be honest with yourself. You can’t correct a fault or weakness if you don’t recognize it as such. We too often want to blame others or conditions for the challenges in our life. Yet when we do this, we only succeed in making ourselves the victim rather than the captain of our fate. The good news is we can learn from our mistakes and poor choices. If we bought that “fool’s gold” we may have been duped, but we know better the next time.

Meditating with the spiritual energy of purification can be very helpful to release confused or clouded thinking. We sometimes make decisions when we’re upset or angry, but this is not the ideal time to make such choices because they are colored by the intensity of the moment. Bringing in the illuminating spiritual powers helps build up more dynamic power, so your mind is strong and not distracted by unhealthy thoughts around you that may try to veer you off course.

Along with making better choices, you want to express stronger will power.

You may have a great idea, but if you don’t have the will to carry that idea out idea, it becomes a fruit that withers on the tree. More than ever, we have to express our dynamic will to stay steady on the path no matter the obstacle.

With karma, sometimes we are paying back a karmic debt from actions we took in other lifetimes but were not yet reconciled. If you find yourself faced with a karmic challenge in the New Year, again here is your opportunity to make better choices. Take responsibility for those past actions. That karma that has come back is your teacher, your opportunity to set things right through spending your precious coin of wisdom wisely.

In the same way, you may find good karma swinging back to you for good done in the past. In those situations, give thanks to the Divine and don’t take that for granted.

It’s an opportunity to build even further on the good karma generated.

As you go through the New Year take a moment to be clear on your intentions and why you are putting something into action. Remember: the choices you made yesterday have brought to where you are today. And the choices you are making today are setting up your tomorrow.
